My name is Gleo Booysen, a transwoman born and raised in the heart of South Africa, Free State Bloemfontein. A city where the transgender issues are often misinterpreted and misunderstood leading many of the transgender community feeling left out when LGBTI issues are being tackled and addressed.
I recently completed the Young African Leaders Initiative Southern Africa program (YALI), a flagship program initiated by former US president Barack Obama which was held at UNISA School for Business Leadership and ran for a period of four weeks and graduated as a Civil Leader.
I am also the organiser of Free State LGBTIQ Pride together with Free State Rainbow Seeds LGBTI which happens annually in the capital city of the Free State, Bloemfontein and has been running for five years which under my leadership for the last 3 years has made the march more visible and attracted both local and national media as well as bringing transgender to the forefront and creating more awareness around the issue and getting them to partake.
I run a local closed support group for transgender women looking at going for the surgery and those everyday issues we as transgender women face on daily bases.
